The Unsung Dawn
You beg, and — because you are the girl who carried the warning across half a sky — the herd listens. For the first time in nine hundred years, the Dawn Herd slips away in the dark, and the sun rises unsung.
It rises wrong. Thin. The gold doesn't reach the bottoms of the valleys, and all day the light has the flavor of a room where an argument happened. The wolves find the cliff-top empty, and howl their frustration, and the herd lives — every foal, every sentry, safe in the deep hills. You did save them, Madison. Hold on to that.
But a dawn skipped once is easier to skip twice. The herd is safe, and hunted still, and the song is now a thing that can be interrupted — which is exactly the lesson Vespera wanted the whole sky to learn. Sera stands beside you on a grey-gold morning, her wound unhealed, and says, gently, because she means it: “You chose to keep everyone safe. That is never wrong. It just isn't finished.”
— The End (of this path) —
This path has ended — but the story isn’t truly finished. Come back another day, make a different choice, and see where the storm takes you.
